Turkey to Host Major Golfing Event

4th March 2008

Turkey is to add another major sporting event to it's list; which already includes the Formula One Grand Prix and the Champions League Final in 2005.

In May this year, Turkey will be host to the Turkish Ladies Open, which will be part of the 2008 Ladies Open European Tour, states the Turkish Daily News.

The event is to be held in Belek, Antalya on 5th to 11th May.

Gordon Lyons, director of International Property Agents said "The Ministry of Culture and Tourism planned to hold major golfing events in Turkey to help raise the country's profile regarding becoming a leading golfing destination; and clearly this is a significant first step.

"Plans are in place to develop Bodrum as another golfing region; with one golf course already in operation and a few more being developed currently" adds Gordon.

President of the National Golf Club, Bulent Goktuna, said "it was not easy to convince organisers for a tournament to be held in Turkey, but we managed to pull it off and it will be a great opportunity for us to promote both Turkey and golf tourism in the Belek region."

Goktuna went on to add that at least 3,000 people will travel to Belek for the Turkish Ladies Open, and the event will be broadcast to over one billion people.
