Events and Festivals in Spain

Many Spanish events and festivals are based on religion. Known as fiestas, festivals are common in Spain.
Festivals

Cadiz Carnival
Celebrated before Lent, this carnival comprises an impressive parade, and a Carnival Queen contest amongst other features.

Spring Fair
The Seville Spring Fair begins the Summer processions, involving many, many bright colours and a multitude of sounds, as well as dancing and all-round entertainment.

Jerez Horse Fair
Drawing many thousands of visitors, this festival is seperated into three events, the livestock exhibition, bullfighting and flamenco shows and the horse fair itself, which comprises many of the world's finest horses and riders parading up and down the streets of Jerez.

St. John's Feast
The original summer solstice is celebrated with the help of snacks and alcoholic drinks, by lighting bonfires and fireworks, and dancing on the beach and in the sea.

La Tomatina
This event celebrates the tomato - in quite an interesting way. The festival comprises the residents of the town and many thousands of visitors throwings hundreds and hundreds of tomatoes at each other in what is probably the world's biggest tomato fight!

Goyesque Fair
This fair; the 'Feria Goyesca do Pedro Romero', sees the toreros wearing traditional bullfighting attire and parading themselves and their horses in front of the audience, before fighting the bulls.

The Vendemia Festival
A generic festival in many wine-producing regions of Spain, the Vendemia Festival is mainly concentrated in Jerez. Each year offers something different, however the festival usually comprises a grand procession, a huge selection of many wines, and fireworks.

Feria de San Miguel
This festival takes place incelebration of Arcos' patron saint; San Miguel. There is music and other entertainment for visitors and locals alike.

Iberoamerican Film Festival
This annual film festival showcases a mix of traditional and modern cinema styles, which concentrate on South America and Spain. The festival lasts throughout November, and the city positively comes alive for the duration.
