Sports and Water Sports in Spain

As Spain has such an extensive coastline, there's the opportunity to participate in several types of water sports in nearly any coastal resort.

Bossaball
Recently invented in Belgium, this new sport involves elements of several other sports, including football and volleyball. Played on a combination of trampolines and inflatables, the games involves trying to score as many points as possible in the time alloted.

Climbing
The Costa Blanca tends to attract many climbers, thanks to it's predictable winter climate, or El Chorro is the location of choice, as it has an excellent mix of paths, climate and scenery.

Football
Football is a hugely popular sport in Spain, with vast numbers of fans attending games each season. There's none of the ridiculous antics that tarnish English football's reputation, making the game a joy to watch all round.

Kite Surfing
The latest most extreme sport, kite surfing is exactly as it sounds; surfing on water, holding onto a kite. A beginners course is advisable for those who have never tried it before.

Paragliding
The region of Algodonales is said to offer the best paragliding conditions, as it has winds from all directions, and offers stunning scenery also. Many paragliding championships are held in this region throughout the year.

Skiing and Snowboarding
Yes, that's right, Spain even has winter sports facilities. The Pyrenees of Aragon and Catalonia have the perfect climate for a spot of skiing, and as such, there's accommodation and skiing facilities.

Snorkeling
Available in almost all coastal resorts, snorkeling is very easy to ge the hang of, and a great way to be able to see many types of sea life. Remember to thoroughly sun-cream the top of your back though as it's exposed to the sun - which many people forget.

Wakeboarding
Apparently this water sport, which is combination of snowboarding and water skiing is the fastest growing water sport in the world.

Water Skiing
Quite difficult at first, water skiing is like riding a bike, once you know how to do it, you'll never forget.

Windsurfing
Especially great on the coast of the 'Straits of Gibralta' - otherwise known as the Wind Machine, wind surfing is available pretty much all along the Spanish coast line. Renting out equipment is straightforward, although getting the hang of it may not be so!
