Akbuk, Turkey

Akbuk is located just outside of Altinkum on the road to Bodrum. Akbuk is a renowned favourite amongst Turks and Brits alike because of it's extensive sandy coastline and relaxed ambience.

Akbuk is a very beautiful town, with white sandy beaches, and surrounded by forests and olive trees. The town is located in the base of a 'U' shaped bay, affording it cooling refreshing breezes, which counteract the astonishing summer heat.

The town is rumoured to have high levels of oxygen and low humidity, and as such arthritis sufferers go to Akbuk to be relieved from the pain.

Despite it's popularity, the town has retained it's untouched feel and traditional charm, this is probably due to the strict enforced planning regulations imposed to preserve the natural beauty, and as such the town hasn't, and probably never will, suffer from over-constuction.

There is a small fishing port, and a harbour in Akbuk. There are also hotels, shops, bar and restaurants and a bus station with regular dolmuses (mini buses - just look for the sign in the window saying 'Akbuk Birlik') leaving for nearby Altinkum, Soke and Kusadasi. Akbuk is just around one hour's drive from Bodrum International Airport.

As for eating and drinking, head down to the sea for beach front restaurants serving stunning fish dishes. For those wanting a vibrant nightlife, jusping on a dolmus and traveling to Altinkum is probably the answer.
