Sightseeing in Akbuk, Turkey

An ancient city, Miletus is a great place to spend the day exploring. The Miletus people had defied several attacks by the Persians, but sometime in the 5th century BC they finally succumbed and the city was destroyed.

What you see today are the ruins of the ancient city. As it was privvy to what are modern town planning structures, Miletus has a grid-system of roads and buildings. The fact that Miletus had four habours gives an idea of it's importance in the trade world at that time.

The theatre at Miletos is still surprisingly intact, and it makes quite an impressive sight; with a capacity of around 15,000 people in it's heyday.

Miletos is located in Soke, a mere dolmus ride from Akbuk.

Also near to Akbuk, is the Temple of Apollo. The Temple is located in Altinkum, again just a short dolmus ride from Akbuk.

The Temple of Apollo is a great sightseeing destination, click here for more information about the Temple of Apollo...

In Akbuk, an ancient Greek church is currently undergoing restoration, which is open to the public.

And finally, a stunning sight is the sun setting on the sea, which is visible from Akbuk harbour. It is lovely watch - well worth getting back down to the beach for!
