Sightseeing in Bodrum: Iassos
Iassos is an ancient town near Gulluk on the Bodrum peninsula. Best reached by boat, Iassos is currently being exacavated by Italians. There is a 'symbol of Iassos' which is a boy with a dolphin, which is on display in the Izmir Museum of Archaeology.
Iassos is rumoured to have been inhabited since the 9th century BC. The city of Iassos was founded from Greek colonists, and then inhabited by Miletuns. In recent years archaeologists have found excavations which show that he city was possibly inhabited even before the Greeks lived there.
