Gumbet, Turkey

Less than 3km from Bodrum, Gumbet is now a resort in it’s own right, thanks to one of the longest beaches on the peninsula!

Gumbet is just 40 minutes drive from Bodrum International Airport, and less than ten minutes from Bodrum by dolmus, making it a firm favourite amongst lively holiday-makers.

As a matter of course, a range of water sports are available in Gumbet; waterskiing, surfing, parasailing and doughnut rides to name a few, and with the beach being so long, the prices for water sports are competitive so be sure to shop around for the best deal. Free sun-beds takes the already tiny amount of hassle out of a day on the beach in Gumbet as you can come and go as you please. Diving is available - the 'Big Reef' has depths of up to 40 metres (although you'd need to be very skilled to reach these depths safely) and houses such stunning fish as barracudas, octopus and moray eels.

For shopaholics, the market is located behind the beach. In the market you'll find everything from shoes, cushion covers, perfumes and underwear to fake designer goods and fruit and vegetables.

The array of bars and cafes that line Gumbet's beach offer table service (or, if you prefer, sun-bed service!) so you can order your drinks without having to move an inch.

Gumbet positively comes alive at night. An impressive windmill announces the beginning of Bar Street, which runs from the centre of town down to the beach, along the way comprising a huge number of bars, tavernas, cafés and nightclubs.

There is the most addictive crackling atmosphere along Gumbet's Bar street, and even the least jovial person would find it hard to say no to a drink or two. Some of the favourite bars in Gumbet include Shamrock Bar, which offers good music (albeit that this is a matter of opinion!) and a friendly, lively atmosphere. X-Bar is a good bar for all the family, as the staff take pleasure in looking after the kids while Mum and Dad enjoy a drink or two.

Shopaholics will want to know the bazaar is held on a Sunday in Gumbet.

Eating in Gumbet, Turkey

There's a huge array of cuisine in Gumbet including traditional Turkish, British, Chinese, Indian, Thai, Italian, Mexican and more.

Windy Bay
Excellent steaks and pizza for reasonable prices, located at the Bodrum end of the beach, and sometimes they offer free wine!

Getting Around

The dolmuses (mini buses) are perfect for traveling along the peninsula - to Bodrum and so on. There are designated stops in various places, otherwise, if you see one just sick out your hand and yell 'STOP!' and stop it will. Pay by passing forward a few low denomination bills to the front and your change will be passed back.

Taxis are also a relatively cheap way of traveling around Gumbet, and the Bodrum peninsula.
